Brainerd, MN – (12/2/17)
State Representative Matt Dean has won the Republican Party of Minnesota State Central Committee straw poll. Dean came in first among the 7 candidates who qualified to run in the contest: former State Party chair Keith Downey, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, State Senator Dave Osmek, Naval Intelligence Officer Philip Parrish, Woodbury Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens and Mr. Lance Johnson.
“We are thrilled to have the support of so many of the Republican Party of Minnesota’s key activists around the state” said Dean. “There is still a long road ahead to 2018 but together we can get there if we are united in our commitment to our principles and to doing what it takes to bring our message to people across Minnesota.”
The State Central Straw poll, held nearly a year before the 2018 election, is an early indicator of the support of the party’s most dedicated activists around the state. In February 2018, the caucuses will kick off the delegate selection process for the State Convention in the spring that will ultimately decide which candidate receives the party endorsement.
“I think Matt has demonstrated that he’s principled and has the experience to get things done, not just talk about them or hand them off to somebody else” said Paul Seefeld, a state central delegate from Sherburne County.
Matt Dean has represented several Ramsey county communities since first elected to the Minnesota House in 2004. He successfully challenged Rep. Rebecca Otto, the current State Auditor, who is now seeking the DFL endorsement for Governor.
